Don’t Forfeit Style for Warmth this Winter

Thursday, May 26, 2016

What I notice most about Winter is how quickly we can forfeit style for comfort and warmth. When that first chill sets in, we’re suddenly donning mismatched beanies and winter socks and pulling out our bulky heaters and various coloured blankets and throws.

But your home’s style doesn’t need to suffer the winter blues, when you can make some smart design choices by focusing on the areas of your home that lose heat during winter… namely your home’s windows and door ways.

How Heat Is Lost In Your Home

- Glass windows and doors bleed heat outwards through heat conduction, thermal radiation, convection and air leakage.

- Clear glass windows that are not insulated absorb the warmth inside your home and radiate it to the exterior.

- Warm air leakage to the exterior can occur through openings and poorly fitted windows and doors.

Without proper window insulation, the majority of the heat within these homes would be lost via the glass windows.

The Solution

Put away those bulky heaters and mismatched throws and blankets in favour of a more permanent, stylish heat retaining window treatment.

Interior plantation shutters act as a barrier between the windows and openings, preventing heat loss, keeping the cold out, and the lovely warmth in.

Highprofile Timber Plantation Shutters

An ever fashionable permanent fixture to your home, timber plantation shutters offer a myriad of benefits besides style. Adjustable blades allow you to choose how much light or airflow you want in your home. During the winter days, open them right up to allow the sunshine in, while at night, shut the louvres to retain the warmth.

Highprofile Timber Plantation Shutters

Complementing all styles of home and interior decor, timber plantation shutters can be customised to your heart’s desire. Choose from standard paints, natural stains or custom colours as well as numerous applications such as bifold, multifold, fixed and hinged to suit all sorts of windows and doorways.

Aluminium Shutters That Look Like Timber

Thursday, February 11, 2016

The hottest trend I have seen emerge in aluminium shutters is the timber grain look, and I am right on board.  Similar to the design movement we are seeing in the interior of houses in which colour is the hero instead of whites, the outdoor aluminium shutter is also being seen in forms other than the traditional white plantation iteration. Architects and designers are using the softer appearance of organic materials like wood and stone in their outdoor rooms, on the floors, walls, and in furniture.

Walnut is still the most popular colour, probably due to its warmth and ability to complement many other palettes. However the lighter and honey coloured timbers that are making an appearance on the inside of the home, a hot trend in 2016, are also spilling into our outdoor rooms.  The lighter appearance of knotty pine aluminium shutters are a stylish and striking finish for asian inspired rooms, coastal styles, and retro designs. I personally like the interesting texture the knots make to larger panels, which allows me to make the aluminium shutter more of a feature in the room, rather that an element that blends into insignificance.

Weatherwell Elite have the best wood grain colours I have seen on the market. Firstly, unlike other aluminium shutters, their timber coloured powder coats have an actual texture and feel like real timber. Secondly their timber grain colours are true powder coats and not liquid bakes, which most other aluminium shutters use. A liquid bake doesn't have the longevity that a true powder coat has, and when I am putting any material into my clients outdoor area it is crucial that it lasts. Weatherwell Elite has a 10 year warranty which is the most generous I have seen.

Summer Awnings

Thursday, December 03, 2015

We all love the outdoors and summer sun, but as energy costs and temperatures rise, cost effective all season sun protection is becoming more and more essential for homeowners.

Awnings are perfect for providing shade relief, reducing the impact of harmful UV rays and glare. Protecting not only your home furnishings but also you and your family, allowing you to enjoy outdoor living 365 days a year.

Plus, as they shade doors and windows from the sun’s heat, they contribute to reducing energy costs, otherwise spent on internal cooling systems.

Convenient and easy to use, awnings are available in manual or motorised systems. The convenience of motorised systems, far outweigh manual however, with remote access to close or open awnings, you are in control of positioning, giving you more time to spend and enjoy the outdoors.

Choose from straight drop, folding arm, semi-cassette, drop arm and automatic roll-up, awnings are also available in a huge range UV durable fabrics. Stylish, practical and affordable, these are the reasons awnings are a familiar presence on Aussie homes.

2 Simple Tips To Maintain Your Timber Shutters

Friday, November 06, 2015

Durable and elegant, the Highprofile Timber Shutter Collection will bring designer style to your home. They are engineered to provide the right mix of temperature control, light, airflow and privacy.

To ensure you receive the best and longest use of your Highprofile Timber Shutters, follow these two simple maintenance tips.

  • Open the louvres with the tilt rod or with the middle louvre.
  • Using a damp cloth, wipe over the shutters to remove any dust film. Solvents are not recommended.
  • To close the shutter panel, gently push the panel until it connects with the magnetic or striker plates on the frame.
Over time, you may find the tension of the blades become loose. If required, you can tension the drive blade to ensure the blades stay in their position.

  • Remove the plastic cap on the side of the panel.
  • Place a Phillips head screwdriver into the hole and gently turn clockwise until you feel the blade has enough tension to remain in place.
  • Be very careful not to over tension the drive blade, as this is not covered under warranty.
So there it is! Two simple maintenance guidelines that will ensure your Highprofile Timber Shutters continue to provide long term beauty and practicality to your home.

Bay Windows & Shutters

Thursday, July 23, 2015

One style of window that is difficult to dress with curtains or blinds is the bay window. Our shutters can solve this problem! Bay windows provide a home with a more shape and elegance, moving away from the ‘square’ room, and they look fantastic with shutters. If you have a bay window in your home, we suggest shutters to maximise the effect and potential of your window.

These angled bay windows (below) have been installed with a ’tier on tier’ style shutter. Excellent for very tall windows and works particularly well in a bay style window. It is the most popular style of shutter install for a bay window simply due to the versatility. Open the top tiers to let light in, while maintaining privacy on the bottom tier by keeping them closed. Perfect for ground floor windows. Adjusting the slats also allows you to maximise the light and airflow to your desire while still maintaining your much-needed privacy.>

Again, shutters complement this smaller styled bay window. Installed as bi-folds, the simplicity of the design adds elegance and sophistication to the room, offering perfect light control!

From bay to curved, no window is too difficult for shutters. In this instance, a curved window is fitted with pivot hinges top and bottom. The options are endless. Contact your nearest All Shutters & Blinds consultant to talk shutters today.

Sunday, May 24, 2015

Whether you’re looking to reduce energy costs, compliment your home furnishings or simply add another feature to impress your guests, there is no doubt that adding some window furnishings will have immense benefit and value to your home. From the myriad of blind varieties to aluminium and plantation shutters, there is a near endless stream of product choices, which understandably can be quite confusing! So here is some pointers from us on what some of our favourite choices are and their benefits!

Roller Blinds
Roller blinds are the most functional blinds and are widely used for the office room at home. Usually, these blinds are made from plastic material or a light fabric. The most remarkable feature in roller blinds is that they don’t allow the morning light to shine directly through. They can be found in an array of colours in and designs.

Venetian Blinds
Venetian Blinds are the most popular types that are made of horizontal slats, attached one above one other. The hanging slats are suspended with a cord and will be rotated to nearly 180 degrees to allow light as required. Since the slats can be closed completely, they are perfect for easy use in bathrooms and washrooms. Venetian blind are available in a variety of materials such as metal, timber, plastic and more. Venetian blinds are ideal for those who are looking for stylish and effective window coverings at relatively low cost.
