Spring Clean your Shutters for Summer

Like most things in our homes, dust can quickly (and frustratingly) settle on all surfaces, including your shutters.

For allergy sufferers, this can be a nightmare which can be made worse as the weather begins to warm up towards summer, making Spring the perfect time to do some cleaning.

The good news is, however, unlike venetian blinds, cleaning your interior or exterior shutters doesn’t have to be a tedious task! You can quickly and easily have the job done in no time, allowing you to get back to sipping refreshing cocktails and relaxing your days away.

Before starting, one thing to take note of is what material your shutters are made from – this can determine how you clean them without causing any damage.

At All Shutters and Blinds, we have our interior range of Highprofile Timber Shutters, Polytherm PVC Shutters, and Highprofile Elements, which are a hybrid timber frame with PVC louvres. We also offer an exterior shutter called Weatherwell that are an aluminium shutter.

TIMBER INTERIOR

For timber shutters, whether you have stained timber shutters or painted timber, it is important not to use any solvents or lots of water. Simply use a damp, soft cloth, like a microfibre cloth, and wipe over and between the louvres.

This process works well for both timber and PVC shutters.

Make sure to finish off with a dry cloth, just in case you accidentally used a bit too much water, but also to stop the water drops from capturing any further dust particles.

ALUMINIUM EXTERIOR

For aluminium plantation shutters used outdoors, you can clean these easily using a non-abrasive cloth or sponge with warm soapy water, or for even less work, you can wash them down with your garden hose.

We recommend cleaning your aluminium shutters on a routine basis every six months.

For those in coastal areas, we recommend increasing your cleaning frequency to weekly for shutters on direct beachfront proximity, monthly for those within a kilometre radius, and quarterly within a 10km radius of the coast/saltwater areas.

HANDY TOOLS

For short people or tall windows,
the Norwex EnviroWand is great for
reaching high places and getting in
between the louvres.
Alternatively, microfibre cloths from
you local supermarket or hardware
store will easily do the job.

By maintaining your interior or exterior shutters with a regular spring clean, you not only reduce dust and allergens in your home, but also help to ensure the beauty and functionality of your panels remains for many years to come.
